The famous, the fictional, the ordinary and the just plain weird end up on Instagram, the social media phenomenon started in 2010 by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger. The networking site that allows you to upload photos to share with friends and, increasingly, random strangers, now has record of over 1 billion photographs shared by users around the world and that number is growing still.
No wonder then that there’s a new user in town – step up Carrie Bradshaw, the infamous, Cosmopolitan drinking, Manolo wearing, fictional IT girl of the 90’s who, along with friends Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda (also fictional it seems worth noting) has joined the generation of selfies and filters thanks to BuzzFeed, the ingenious creators of the Carrie Bradshaw Instagram page. ‘Carrie’ shares her many musings on life and love, alongside the obligatory snaps of her wardrobe and glittering social life, gaining loves and comments worthy of her status as the ultimate NY party girl.
The 90’s Carrie may have once said that ‘trends come and go but friendships never go out of style’ but the 2013 Instagram Carrie seems happy to have joined this trend and, fictional or no, her musings, shoe symbols and selfies are only confirming Instagram’s status as the most on trend social platform currently riding the social wave.
