Leeds Print Festival

Last Friday was the opening night of Leeds Print Festival, the week long event started with an exhibition of traditional and contemporary print processes at Leeds Gallery.

Nick Deakins’ work had a large presence at the entrance of the show. My favourite piece of his (and of the whole show) was his crazily simple but all the more glorious for it; pizza slice print. I also loved his ’don’t be a prick’ print, sage advice indeed. The rest of the exhibition showcased loads of different artists work and whilst I didn’t want to take every single piece home and hang it on my wall I appreciated the skill, print techniques and diversity of styles. It’s ace to see a whole week of events dedicated to design and print in Leeds. I think the city was lacking this kind of cultural presence.

All in all, I thought it was a great exhibition. It’s brilliant that print is being celebrated in this way and I liked that both modern and traditional printing techniques were represented, nobody was left out. Long live print I say. And remember, don’t be a prick. x
