Greggs, the bakers, are launching a new national TV campaign that looks to take advantage of the UK consumer’s desire for more affordable, better quality food in the harsher economic climate of 2009.
Focusing on three main categories, where new product news will be announced, the new Greggs ads feature Muffins (Sicilian Lemon and Belgian triple chocolate), Sandwiches (made with new improved, freshly baked white seeded and brown malted bread) and Pasties (specifically the new improved three cheese and onion including mozzarella).
The new TV campaign will be supported by posters, press and radio, all created through the strategic and creative agency, Propaganda.
The humorous TV 60' and 30’ ads will feature a new character alongside the comedian Paddy McGuinness in the form of Scamp, his trusty terrier companion. The ad dramatises the irresistible, baker fresh taste of Greggs products.
The new ads are accompanied by the music track, 'Maybe Tomorrow' (Littlest Hobo) by Terry Bush.
Alongside these TV ads, there are also three 10’ ads that are more product-specific and highlight the great quality and value Greggs has to offer.
The new campaign comes on the back of an encouraging year at Greggs, where total sales grew over the year by 7.1%, despite the credit crunch.
Commenting on the new TV campaign, Greggs Group Marketing Director, Scott Jefferson, said “The new TV campaign is demonstrating our baker-fresh quality and value proposition, together with a distinctive personality that is uniquely Greggs.”
Propaganda Director, Mike Phillipson, said “Consumer research has helped drive us towards a new campaign that seeks to engage with potential customers and lapsed customers, who want food that offers affordable quality, rather than still pay for over-priced food that ‘underwhelms’ their taste buds.”
The TV campaign starts on Easter Monday, 13th April, with a 60 ‘ TV spot in the Hells Kitchen programme. Media buying is through Mediavest Manchester.
